About Daniela Borgialli
Although my interest in movement started as a child, my path was coupled not only with many types of dancing but also with many courses of study in Anatomy and Kinesiology. Movement is about being healthy, and being healthy is also about what I consume. I would have to credit my mother on this point as she was definitely ahead of her time in terms of nutrition and healthy living.
I took my first Anatomy for Dancers class with Sarah White in 1995. White’s class was a small hands-on session about anatomy and movement. My modern dance mentor for many years, Marcus Schulkind stressed the importance of alignment in his classes. I was recommended to Susan Klein while on a yoga retreat and subsequently spent time in New York City studying Susan Klein Technique, which placed a huge emphasis on lengthening the hamstrings and introduced me to the power of my psoas. Dr. Pam Matt at Arizona State University provided challenges and insights through Anatomy & Kinesiology’s yearlong course and with whom I began training with in the Fall 2013 on the work of Barbara Clark and The Thinking Body. This work is about using imagery to change and heal the body. Katy Bowman and the Restorative Institute have furthered my knowledge and understanding of the human machine with the very scientific and biomechanical approach to the body’s structure.
I share my passion for movement as a full–time Argentine Tango teacher and dancer and have been dancing passionately for over 30 +years. My interest lies in raising people’s awareness of their bodies and to have all levels of dance students train safely. The body is very wise and we just need the tools to listen.
I received an MFA in Dance & Choreography from Arizona State University and I am a Nutritious Movement™ certified Restorative Exercise Specialist. I also received my Healthy Foot Practitioner™ certificate through the Nutritious Movement as well. The training involves a thorough education of foot mechanics, how foot function affects whole-body health, and the role of footwear on foot health and foot pain. The Restorative Exercise Institute is a science-based education facility dedicated to optimizing long-term health of the human machine through proper understanding of how habits of posture and alignment affect organ and system function.
I am currently living in Berlin 2015 – 2016 and also do Skype sessions!
